I've got Fridays off and maybe even Thursdays off.
So it's three day week for me this entire semester.
With Mondays 8-4, Tuesdays 8-12, Wednesdays 9-12 :D

Hello juniors, Waves 15 is coming.

I hope all of you are more than ready for your first official big concert because we're about less than 3 weeks away from it. So..... how are you all feeling? :) Excited I hope. If not, I'm here to give you a morale boost. <3

I understand that it has been a tough month for you all, in fact for all of us. We have been giving you guys a whole lot of shit and trainings during this period. But please do not be demoralized. I hope you understand that all we want is for all of you to put up a good show, for no one else but yourselves. We want you all to show people out there what you're made of and what you're really capable of.

Some of you have promised to level up for Waves. And honestly, I do see most of you improve, not just in terms of dance, but in terms of initiative, responsibility, hardwork and attitude. Please please please continue to keep up this positive attitude okay. However, needless to say, there are also a few jokers, the black sheeps of your lot, who have shown little sense of urgency for this upcoming concert. If you think I'm talking about you, then you've got to pull your socks up. Please don't jeopardise your friends and your choreographer's item. If you know who I'm talking about then I need you all to rub off some off your positive attitude on them, so that you all can level up together! Let no one be left behind :)

Always remember "what you sow is what you reap." If you've sowed only this much <--------> effort and hardwork for the concert, then I don't suppose you will reap much from it. And also I don't think you will share as much joy from the success of Waves, as the others who have put in all that they can.

Embarking on this Waves journey is just like a race, we don't stop until we have reached the finish line, and we don't leave because we're not quitters. I know it's tough, we've all been through it, it's like completing the race with dumbbells chained to your feet. But when you look back at what you have achieved and overcome, you'll be proud of yourself. And we'll all be too :)

We've now come down to our very last lap of the race, so just chiong towards the finishing line! Don't end up regretting that you did not. Let's all work together and make your first Waves a memorable one.

Had a sharing session with WCO's students! :D
They are like training to become the 2nd batch of WCO.
Thanks An An for giving Augustin and I this opportunity.
All of them were damn freaking dope. I swear.

When I got there, I saw a couple of familiar faces.
Apparently, there were 2 representatives from each
danceclub who came for this sharing session. After
assessing these people, I realise I'm the youngest
there with the least dance experience! D;
Omg sibei nervous. I still can't believe I get to
be part of this. I seriously am one lucky bitch!

All of them like damn dope please D: Look:

SDZ - Augustin (and um, me :x)

The japanese were even more dope.
Way to dope for words, I swear.
So surreal man. They look like
youtube videos coming to life!

First off, we were each paired with a buddy.
One Sg to one Jap. I was paired up with Mii :D
We started off the sharing with House by Take.

So here's how the sharing goes:
2 eights of routine - Sg solo - Jap solo - 2 eights of routine (End)

After that, each pair had to showcase to the judges,
Dominic & Ben Psyk. Augustin and his partner won!

After that we talked a bit and understand more of
each other's dance culture and dance traditions.
And ended it off with a battle! :D Hehe so fun.
And our group won! Yay credits to Aug, Keiths, I,
Mii, Akihito, Tatsuya and shit I forgot her name :x

After the sharing session, we all switched emails.
Got to know more people from the other clubs too!
Then ate at cineleisure for about an hour before
Shohei's masterclass starts. Akihito and Tatsuya
were joining his class too! And so was Johnny!
At least I won't be taking the class alone :D

Oh btw, nothing much to elaborate on Shohei's
masterclass because it was absolutely G-R-E-A-T.
Dope class seriously. Has a whole lot of feel to it.
I am enjoying myself a bunch today! Woohoo!

After listening to Tommy's recordings,
I suddenly have the urge to sing again.
Went back to listen to all my song
recordings and song covers that
I've done over the past few years.
Feeling nostalgic.

To all my band friends, music friends that I've neglected
for a different passion in life which is dance, I'm sorry :/
But I'm sure there'll be other opportunities for us to catch
up and create good music again, if I could find the time to.

I really respect your passion for singing man, Toms.
Jiayou. We'll kbox again soon and see how much
you've improved and how much you've owned me :)

I didn't predict I would snap this quick.
It's only been the first month.

First things first,
I have to apologise for stomping
out of a training halfway like that.
I'm terribly sorry. Esp to those
who committed to the routine.
I'm terribly sorry.

Well I just thought that it is very unfair to those
who are so damn hardworking, doing the routine,
yet some people choose to do their own thing.

I mean, okay. Alright I'm fine with that.
Since the routine is boring and you all have
decided for yourselves that your waves are
all damn fucking dope or something.
But at the very least show me the end
product of what you've been practising.
If you don't convince me, then sorry,
please cooperate and do the routine.
Training is not for you to slack and
have your own fun by the way.

If you want to come to a training and
do your own stuff, why come at all?
Just do your own routine at home.
You'll get better faster this way.
I don't wanna waste your time.

Everyone's doing the same routine.
They are all just as tired as you are.

Honey's been coming to my house very often.
That's after he had sent me to my doorstep,
and decided to stay indoors for a bit.

And it turns out that we always got hungry.
ALWAYS.

Since there's nothing to eat at home,
we cooked maggie and ate ice cream.

There was once when we (+my brother) were so hungry,
that we whipped up cheesy eggs and gyozas to snack on.
Now I've got no more eggs left in my refrigerator. Gee :(

But whatever the case is, both parties

make perfect sense in their debates.

Okay. Before I go on:

As I was saying...

It's true that both parties have their

own points, whatever the case was.

But I only know one thing.

I just enjoy what I'm doing.

Hiphop, LA, Bboy, whatever.

I just wanna enjoy the dance.

I used to think that dancing was sth simple.

Never knew that it has so many restrictions

to it until now. Upon reading the fb statuses

of the Sg dancers that I respect, drives me to

think that some might feel quite lost cos a certain

style or genre that they have been doing all this

while isn't exactly recognized. I think that's sad.

Especially for those who dance "LA Hiphop" :(

Oh btw, I don't do LA. I'm giving my views

from a neutral perspective.

I used to think that the fundamentals of true

dancing was just to have fun and enjoy, literally.

But it seems so competitive now, doncha think?

The constant debates about who's right, who's

wrong, who's a dancer and who's not. All that

certainly strained many bonds. I don't like it.

And btw, am I still right about the fun? :/

I read stuff that "real" Sg dancers post

on fb that I don't quite agree with too.

But oh well, what do I really know? I'm

just a small individual from the younger

generation who thought that I have been

dancing to Hiphop all these while, when

actually the truth is --- I'm not.

For the fact that I can't freestyle.

I feel a little awkward doing it.

And I'm quite sad for the fact

that it's not Hiphop I'm doing.

So what is it called anyway? :/

"If you can't freestyle, you can't Hiphop."

If its definitions are put forth so bluntly,

then I should claim that - Okay, I am not

doing Hiphop. Cos I wouldn't wanna be

disrespecting the Founder of Hiphop.

I mean, he created it. He would want

future generations to be imparted with

the right history and right knowledge.

(Sorry for using the word "bluntly".

I can't seem to find a better word.

Hope I didn't sound too rude... :/)

So all these while I'm dancing to a style

that perhaps is named - Choreography?

But I like it. I enjoy it. Very much :)

However, I know that in dance,

I gotta know how to freestyle

in some point of time in my life.

But I'm not comfortable doing it.

There's this mental barrier that

I'm still trying hard to overcome :(

I'm trying very hard so that maybe

one day I'll be dancing Hiphop too.

Perhaps I've been brought up

the unorthodox way, which is

doing choreography first before

I even know how to freestyle.

Some dancers made their stand

saying that that it should be the

other way round. But then again,

who decides whether its right or

wrong? Who decides the correct

way or the correct process of an

individual's development in Dance?

Today I had so much fun, really.

I miss every single one of you :')

Irwin Gan, Marcus Leong & Tan Rui Shan.

All of you are special to me in one way or another.

Love all our catching up/camwhoring sessions.

And honestly, I appreciate the fact that I've still

got really close friends from sec school to keep.

Even though we only meet once in a while, with

at least a minimum of 6 months interval, but the

mutual bond is still there. And so what if it's not

as strong as before? Everytime when I'm around

you guys, I enjoy myself thoroughly, especially

when doing the stupidest/quirkiest of things.

I feel so comfortable.

I feel so like... home.

It's the closest word.

I thank god you all came this far in my life and I

I changed my blog's concept a little bit :D
So now I'm kinda playing on the minimal.
Now it looks so simple and sweet hehe!

Fun But Tiring

Yesterday was my very first experience leading like the entire dance training, both genre and official. And it was kind of chaotic because the group was so huge! Being my first time, I didn't really know what exactly I was supposed to do, so I was quite blur. But as I go along, things get better because there were always people around who were very supportive. Jiawen, Johnny, Ahjan would come and help out or give feedback on the things that I ought to take note of. Especially Jiawen! )': Duo kui you ni le. Next time I'll prepare beforehand before stepping into the studio. Lol.

Then after that was Cass mass dance. Hahaha rushed there at 930pm to recap the routine and then start chop chop at 10pm. The GLs were all damn high. I think it's um, a Cass thing. If you're from Cass, it's kind of like your nature to be high. Just look at Lum. Yupppppp. Okay so I guess we all had fun! :D The routine was easy to catch too. See ya'll at camp! Was so tired. Lucky got baby to help me out! Thanks love! :)

arms, face and stomach, and then lit on fire.
This final torture lasted for a time of two hours.

Junko Furuta died later that day, in pain and alone.
Nothing could compare 44 days of suffering she had
to go through. When her mother heard the news and
details of what had happened to her daughter, she fainted.
She had to undergo a psychiatric outpatient treatment.
Imagine her endless pain. Her killers are now free men.
Justice was never served, not even after 20 years.
They deserve a punishment much greater than what they
had put upon Furuta, for putting an innocent girl
through the most unbearable of sufferings.

This story from 1989 is true. Please spread her story around.
Everyone should know about the existence of Junko Furuta’s
unimaginable and incomprehensible suffering.

Wow. Haven't blogged in a long long time.
But I doubt anyone still reads this now.
And what triggered me to actually blog?
It is the club's interview. Hahaha.

I was asked numerous questions.
Of which I couldn't answer.
Or rather I didn't know how to.
I couldn't find the right words.
And it sets me thinking...

Digression: I miss Devolusion.
I miss how we used to be so hungry for dance.
I miss how we ponned band practices to session.
I miss how we clean up and demand from each other.
I miss how we stood up and fought for our own rights.
I miss how we session although it's kind of unorthodox.
I miss how we went through a lot of shit together.
I miss how we would session everyday after band, before band.
I miss how we skip lunch and breaks just to choreo, then rush for band.
I miss how we dance from 10am to 10pm on Saturdays.
I miss how we used the open space opposite the school when we're not entitled to use the studios. (Just because we're not an official club.)
I miss how we didn't give up on ourselves when the going gets tough.
I miss how we first performed for the public at Ang Mo Kio. (We each earned $42 some more, remember how ecstatic we were?)
I miss how we were such noobs when I look back at our videos.
I miss how we stood up for each other when we were slandered.
I miss how we sticked together and cry when we were judged by the school.
I miss the day that our dance group was finally recognised by the school. (It made us feel that everything we did, it was all worthwhile.)
I miss how we choreograph and session without any mirrors at the open space.
I miss how we went to Rui's house to use her mirror to synchronize ourselves.
I miss how we used to practise with just one pathetic Sony Ericsson speaker.
I miss how we fought for the open space and music with the old tai ji people. (Lol.)

Yeap we were thaaaaat pathetic.
But these are little things that we went through together.
And I miss them all. Things are just so so so different now.
Now that all the luxuries are presented and shoved in our faces.
People don't learn through the hard way anymore. And thus,
there is no bond. There's no togetherness in doing anything.
And even if they do get to learn it the hard way, they might not
like this kind of working style. And they eventually leave the club.
Like how we've dwindled from 12 members strong, to only 5.
Then for the Operation Smile event, we've come down to 4.
Now it's left with 3 of us dancing. How sad ain't it?

But as each of us moved on with our lives,
I guess our priorities somehow changed.
Okay. Not that we're not dancing anymore.
But it's just that the crowd's different now.
And the motivation I have seems very little.
I feel that it's so difficult for me to push myself.
Oh well, maybe I did too much of a comparison?

Now that all 3 of us are in completely different clubs.
Are you all adapting well? Are things still as much fun?
Maybe because we're a small group thus it is easier to handle.
It's easier to form a bond. And easier to synchronise ourselves.
As we all have a common goal, we just work our way towards it.
We get ourselves exposed in a lot of performances too, so
everyone gets to perform and improve together as a whole.
But in a club, things are so different.

Remember how we used to curse why we joined band in the
first place since we're not doing something we really like.
And why there isn't a hiphop club in our secondary school.
Then we were over the moon we could finally join a hiphop
club in our own polytechnics and learn something substantial.
We were so ecstatic and absorbent because all these while we
have never been trained under a professional or taken up any
dance classes due to $$$ and time constraints. We know nuts
about basics and techniques and all we do is just plain choreos.
And the thought of not having to balance between band and
dance anymore was such a relief. It will just be pure dancing
24/7 and completely stress-free. But is that really the case?

I guess we sort of forget the politics involved in these clubs.
I even had to question myself and be questioned if it was
even passion that I had for dance. I don't even know now.
They've different focuses such that their goals are different.
And it's so tough to instill the same mindset in everyone.
Because the club is so hugeee.

Last time all we wanted to do was dance, because we enjoy
doing it, we love it, we don't mind going through shit for it.
But now, we have mirrors, we have speakers, we have long
breaks in between. (We don't even take that long a break. We
used to just buy two 1.5l bottles of green tea and then share
it amongst ourselves throughout the entire dance session.)
Now with all the luxuries given to the club, are people taking
advantage of it? Are people taking them for granted? Do they
realise that they have go through a series of hardship to
foster the kind of bond that the club wants? These things
don't just happen overnight. Lol whatever. Maybe I am
starting to bullshit now. Hahaha.

It's tough to get the people over here to come together to do
anything at all because they don't even want to go through
all these pains to emerge stronger. And they aren't willing to
sacrifice their time to session, clean up or practise together.
(Okay I admit, not all are like that though.) Then sessions
will only be attended by the usual few people. This is when
the parody starts: the stronger people just keeps getting
stronger and the weaker ones just keep getting weaker.
It's a cycle. And I sigh at our plight. It makes me sick to
watch my own club _________ (Whatever you deem fit.)
It makes me feel like I can only fantasize about becoming
like NRA. Lol I hope our club receives its medication soon.
Maybe we can start by showing a little more affection for
those who are very hardworking, yet are constantly being
neglected? So much so that they've lost their drive. It really
sucks to feel insignificant by the way. I know because I've
long gone through that phase. So yeap, we need help.
And I'm so stagnant now, I need help too.

Things used to be so much fun when everyone accepted
everyone and compensated one another's pace. Everyone
putting in the same amount of hard work and effort. When
everyone contributed no matter how small. Be it choosing
of songs or choreographing or remixing of music. I want to
dance like before again. I miss Devol so much, but maybe
you've all moved on and there's nothing worth lingering on.
I guess I must move on too.

Yo juniors! Feeling the post-waves blues already? It's normal. But no worries! Dear O' Uncle has an assignment for all of you! You can consider this as your very first test in SDZ on your way to being a senior!

I must say I'm really impressed with how much all of you improved during Waves! But then, your improvement shouldn't stop there! Here are the criterias for the COMPULSORY test/assignment:

Test/Assignment 1
You are to choreograph A PERFORMANCE piece that should be at least 3 minutes long which consists of 3 parts:

PART 1 - All girls piece (at least 1 min)
PART 2 - All guys piece (at least 1 min)
PART 3 - Combine piece (at least 1 min)
Total 3 minutes!

*must have formations
*can be longer than 3 mins
*should be of performance standard
*at least 80% HH and 20% genre is allowed
(100% HH works as well)
*you all are free to choose any songs you want
(can be a mixed of songs as well)
*songs should be properly mixed
(if don't know how to mix, ask your seniors)
*the transition between Part 1, 2 and 3 must be done
smoothly and properly
*combine piece should include partner work
between the guys and girls
*proper costumes of course (make-up optional)

Today's Waves rehearsal was majorly about
our spacial awareness, lightings and plotting.
Not so much on clean up and choreography.
The lightings were time consuming, I thought.
My time spent at the Convention Centre was
almost futile because I didn't even go up for
plotting when Girl's Hiphop was on. However,
the fruitful thing was that Ryan taught us the
continued version of his Escapade choreo yay!

Saturday at Oschool

We had our Waves dry run rehearsal
over at Oschool yesterday. Yeah man.

I am finally beginning to see the flow of
the production. And Zhuofeng was very
into his character. He took his role very
seriously and was really good. Respect.
Oh btw, Unkle came to watch too :D

At the last part of Valerie's choreo, Siu Yun
and I collided into each other when we both
had to switch formation. Ouch :'( Sorry!

Anyway, after the rehearsal they went to
lunch over at Just Acia. So I hung around
for a bit before rushing down to Toa Payoh
for Devol training! Yay, Sharon came too!
Somehow I felt that trainings were pretty
different, as compared to how we used to
carry it out years ago. Very refreshing :D
I promise I'll come up with something fast.

Then after that, we went to watch Xiaomarc's
Soka performance with both Devol, Sdzians
and TPJC dancers. Like only Devol high lor.
Haha it was damn fun :D It felt like a reunion.
About three years ago, we performed for their
Ignite Concert as well. Then yesterday when we
went to watch them, everyone like improved
damn lot lah. Everyone. And speaking of getting
high, when we saw Xiaomarc's mother, she was
so elated, she literally screamed like as though
she was at home lah. Hahaha even louder then
us, the four girls put together. Lol damn cute :D

Like A Brother Gone

The day that we've all been dreading has arrived.
The enlistment of Unkle, Kenneth Cheng Xin Yong.

He is a well respected senior and mentor in the club.
Without him around, things are gonna be different.
Never thought that this day would commence so soon.

He has contributed alot to the club, in terms of trying
his best to help build a strong foundation in the juniors.
I look up to him alot because he is truly concerned and
have the club's interest at heart. He never fails to uplift
the moody atmosphere in the club, never hestitating
to shower love for all his juniors, never once gave up
on any of us even when the thought of giving up on
ourselves really did cross our mind, he never stops
motivating me to push myself, forked out time and
effort to train basics with the juniors. He did so much
for us yet somehow I feel that some of us really took
his efforts for granted.

Now that he is leaving, I suddenly feel a sense of loss.
Like a brother gone. He is like the fatherly figure in the
club and I respect him alot. He provides support in both
tangible and intangible ways. Just to let you know that
you will always be remembered for your contributions,
lectures and you'll always be one of the sturdiest pillars
of the club. We will definitely miss you shitloads bro.

Honestly, I would vote him the most genuine senior in
SDZ. No doubt the trainings I've had with you may be
little, but I've gained alot from you. I've made so many
revelations and am constantly trying to step out of my
comfort zone. I will bear your teachings and advices in
mind because I know that under your guidance, we all
will grow and emerge as better and mature dancers.
So please continue to dance and inspire and motivate!

And Unkle, like you always say:
"Please take care of your health."
Please really do take care of yourself in there and don't
go and bully all your frail-looking platoon mates okay!
Lastly, eat well, sleep well, or even dance for awhile.

Also make sure you come back often enough to teach
us new or dope stuff that you've picked up or learnt.
Or come back to witness us grow, watch our progress
and give pointers. Or at the very least, just coming
back to this place where you once called Home.

Today was Waves' first vetting.

Though it didn't please the Holy Trinity, but I enjoyed it.
Watched an anxious herd of people showcase their items.
I especially loved Gladys' and Jan Ying's modern pieces :D

Unexpectedly, I got into Valerie's Girls Hiphop choreo.
So did Janice Gerzine. Yeap, and very thrilled were we.
However, I figured that this might come across to some
people as unfair as we didn't actually go for the audition.
Hopefully not.

Like the hooha that stirred in the club today.
Regarding the Male lead or something.
But I guess they adapted ultimately.

Well, looking at the brighter side of things.
At least there's something for me to practise now.
Learnt 2 eights of her choreo and it ain't that easy.

I was thinking about some stuff
when I was about to go to bed.
And something hit me.
Now I feel terrible.

I realised that I have:
Neglected the Dadpians.
Neglected the Sports Club mates.
Neglected my Perc Juniors.
Neglected my Cousins.
Neglected my Family.

I've been dancing a whole lot lately.
And it's sad how I...

...missed Minyu's 21st birthday and skipped
CASS meeting due to dance trainings. I feel
really guilty that I haven't made time for the
Dadp Family. But oh well, I'm gonna see all
of you later today for the Drama Workshop.

...missed out on a lot of our babe outings and
birthday celebrations. Also, I haven't been to
Sports Club for quite awhile now. My apologies
to the Amazing Race crew. Sorry for always
being MIA for all of your meetings.

...promised to go back Amkss and take my
juniors for sectionals, but I simply found
no time to do so. And I missed the annual
Band Dinner as well. Neither did I go back
for the Teacher's Day celebrations. Sigh.

...promised to make time for my cousin's
birthday and all those catch-up mahjong
sessions yet I'd broken my promise time
and again. I hardly reply to all your text
messages as I fear I'd make empty promises
especially when I'm uncertain of my schedule.

...haven't been around at home long enough to
have a proper conversation with my mother.
I just wake up, head to school, dance, supper,
come back home at 12'30am and sleep. And
this eventually becomes a routine, sad to say.

I don't know. Am I getting a little too involved?
But the thing is, I enjoy and I love what I'm doing.
Even when all the aches are too much to take.
Even when the sessions are too tough to handle.

I'm wondering.
How would things change when the holidays are over.
How would things change when Waves 14 is over.
How would things change when Uncle really enlists.
How would things change when assignments pile up.
Change. For the better, or for the worse?

Now I can only pray for God to give me strength.

Finally We Met Up

Argh! Yesterday I was too shagged to post.

But it was a very meaningful day for me! :D
Met up with Xiaomarc, Ruishan and Irwin.
Jeez, I miss them alot man. The three of
them never fail to plaster a smile on my
face whenever we meet. Though meeting
up is VERY difficult for us due to all our
hectic schedules! ):

1. Met up at Tampines Mrt station, 3pm and all were late!
2. We felt broke so we went for lunch at some Foodcourt.
3. Talked about Dance, Studies and alot of rubbish things.
4. Walked around Tampines Mall for a little bit.
5. Went to Soka for Xiaomarc's group meeting.
6. Before that, we talked about all our Boy/Girl Traumas.
7. Tried to force and get Xiaomarc to spill about his crush.
8. Attempts obviously failed and the meeting proceeds.
9. Ruishan went off first to watch a Concert at Esplanade.
10. During the meeting, we all had to act out a short skit.
11. Xiaomarc acted as an old man who fell while crossing the road.
12. Irwin got to be a passerby who laughed when the old man fell.
13. I was the teacher who praised the kid who helped the old man.
14. It was hilarious! After the meeting, we had our refreshments.
15. Then we went over to Esplanade to look for Ruishan.

19. We sent Irwin to Geylang as he had stuff to tend to.
20. Then we ended up scouting for trannys there! Lol street 19!
21. Witnessed a fight of a guy kicking someone real hard in the ass!
22. Cabbed back with Xiaomarc and Ruishan love.
23. Received news about not getting into LA choreo.
24. But I wasn't really affected by the news though.
25. Maybe because of the awesome day and company I had.

Have a Goal

Thanks Uncle. All I needed was reassurance.
I needed a goal. To push myself to achieve it.
Now that I know what I have to conquer,
I am all ready to fight again!

Things to achieve:
1. Clean up body isolations
2. Up/downbeat variations
3. Hit and release for LA
4. Do not eat up the steps
5. Uncle's choreographies

Choreographies not to be neglected:
1. Heavy Weights (An An)
2. Fastlane (An An)
3. Cheif Rocker (Uncle)
4. Uncle's second choreo of which the song name escapes me
5. Work That (Uncle)
6. LA Hiphop Choreo (Anne)

I hope I can get into LA because it will really
be a huge breakthrough for me, personally.

Oh, I think I am giving up Groove Hiphop.
I want to chiong for An An's choreography.
I was told the auditions will be on Monday.
So all the best to myself. And good luck to
everyone else going for it! Jiayou :)

Congrats to all those who got into their
desired genres! :D As for those who didn't,
please do not be demoralised and channel
the negativity and energy into the right
places! Most importantly must work hard
on your core genre choreos and jiayou for
next year's Waves! :D

Btw, I'm glad the aches are getting better.
Oh my, I'm developing a phobia for House.
The after-effects of it kills me completely.
Everytime I go for House sessions, I will
get aches the next day which will result in
me missing that day's session. Lol serious!
It has been proven! Okay maybe because
I got not enough rest or what but yeah lol.
